Developing Behaviourally Informed Guidance for Using Virtual Reality (VR) in Road Safety Education
There are currently no national standards guiding how VR should be designed, delivered, or evaluated in road safety education. This project will fill that gap by developing the UK’s first national, evidence-based and behaviourally informed guidance for VR road safety interventions.

The Young Drivers' Commission: empowering young people to reshape the way we educate, train, test and license
Young driver safety remains a major challenge, with nearly 5,000 people killed or seriously injured in 2024 in crashes involving at least one young driver. Despite known solutions, progress has stalled due to complex and contested policy debates. This project aims to unlock action by bringing young people and policymakers together in constructive dialogue.

Brent Streets Safe: Multi-Lingual Safety for Pedestrians and Cyclists
This project will address the disproportionately high risk of casualty for non-English speakers, design culturally relevant safety content, run workshops to check content, produce 2,500 translated packs (with digital version) and give a verified evidence base to Brent Council

Slowing down for safety: Where, when and why do drivers comply with 20 mph speed limits?
This project will take a human-centred approach to explore the factors affecting speed limit compliance in Leeds and to provide an overview of best practices in the initial implementation of 20 mph speed zones, based on the research literature and lessons learned.

Building on the success of the award winning DriveFit project, this research aimed to enhance the attitudes and intentions of pre-drivers, ultimately leading to a reduction in road collisions and incidents among this demographic.

Fasten Up for Your Future
Following the success of an initial project, Transport for West Midlands funded a pilot to build on the proof of concept to broaden the geography and reach of the original project. Additional funding from The Road Safety Trust allowed for an evaluation that measured the impact of the project by understanding the reach, visibility and the behavioural change delivered by the online media campaign.

Development of an on-road tractor-based VR assessment and training tool for agricultural drivers
Working in collaboration with The Farm Safety Foundation, Nottingham Trent University developed a validated 360-degree hazard test focused on on-road tractor safety training and driving skills.

Centre Line Removal Trialling for Safer Roads
This project will deliver a small scale controlled trial to test the effectiveness of implementing CLR in addition to existing lower speed limits i.e. 30mph and 20mph in small towns and semi-rural settlement areas within East Lothian Council's local highway network.

This project aims to improve the road safety confidence, skills and knowledge of the local disabled community, working in partnership with a group of peer beneficiaries and local road safety professionals to design and develop a walking and cycling proficiency training programme and personalised support to disabled participants.

Driving Change Together
This project worked closely with older people in Leeds to understand ‘what works’ to encourage older drivers to assess their driving ability as they age and consider safer alternatives whilst maintaining a social and independent life.

Extending the reach of RSGB Ageing Driver Training
This project aims to increase the uptake of the RSGB Ageing Driver Training Course for ADIs, which has gained DVSA recognised status (an accreditation scheme designed to raise awareness and recognition) and responds to the recommendations in the National Older Drivers Strategy.
