Organisations, public and professional associations, registered charities and university departments in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland may apply for grants.

Individuals are not eligible for grants from The Road Safety Trust unless they are part of a larger research or project team. In addition, private commercial enterprises, Community Interest Companies and not-for-profit businesses will be considered for funding as long as the schemes or initiatives proposed are for charitable activity, are for public benefit and are in line with our priorities.

In some cases, we may accept applications from overseas organisations, e.g. for world class research with the potential to benefit UK road users. This should be discussed with us before applying.

The Road Safety Trust invites applications on a particular road safety theme each year, having taken on board feedback from its stakeholders through consultation as to where the priorities and gaps are. Consultations are repeated every few years, so if you would like to be a participant in this, please let us know.

We also hold occasional open grant rounds where there is no theme.

Smaller grants

We also operate a Small Grants Programme where projects do not need to be linked to the major theme. In addition, we may invite proposals for research into specific topics that have been identified as key development areas.

Finally, the Trustees reserve the right to award funding at their own discretion to support our charitable objectives.
