Apply for grants
The Road Safety Trust uses any surplus gifted by our not-for-profit trading subsidiary company, UKROEd, to help create safer roads and protect road users.
As a small charity with low running costs, the vast majority of this income goes to support vital road safety studies and initiatives, through our grant programmes.
Grant giving
See below for more information about how our grant giving works.
Funding rounds
Our Trustees consider the amount of income and potential demand to allocate a total funding amount each year.
There have previously been two rounds per year, Small Grants in Spring and Large Grants in Autumn.
Our next funding round in Autumn 2025 is for Small Grants, opening for initial expressions of interest on 23 September.
More information is made available in the Grant Guidance for each round, which can be viewed and/or downloaded on our Small Grants or Large Grants pages.

How it works
We have recently implemented a new two-stage application process, which offers early feedback to applicants as well as guidance for those who are invited to submit full bids.
Further information about the process and how to use the online application portal is provided on the respective Large Grants and Small Grants pages once each round goes ‘live’.
Grant theme scoping reviews
We base some of our rounds on evidence that identifies where our funds can be best used to improve road safety in the UK.
We commission scoping reviews to help determine specific areas within a theme to focus on. These provide useful information on existing research and recommendations for further work, which may be of wider interest, so we have made them available here.
