Could you be a member of our Board of Trustees?
About The Road Safety Trust
The Road Safety Trust is the UK’s largest independent grant funder of road safety initiatives.
We support research and practical projects that aim to reduce deaths and serious injuries on our roads – funding more than 140 projects since the charity was established in 2014 and awarding nearly £13million in grants.
Principally, our goal is to support innovative road safety research or practical interventions designed to reduce the number of people killed or injured on our roads. Practical interventions might focus on education, engineering or enforcement approaches or a combination of these.
Our trustees help set our direction, oversee how resources are used and ensure our work makes a lasting difference.
We are looking for new trustees who, in addition to being an active member of our Board of Trustees, will also play a key role on our Audit and Risk Committee, bringing expertise in finance, governance and risk management.
We welcome applications from people with different backgrounds and experiences who share our commitment to safer roads and are willing to contribute their judgement, ask thoughtful questions and support sound decisions.
Trustees serve unpaid capacity for an initial three-year term. Reasonable travel expenses for Board and committee meetings are reimbursed.
Welcome - Tony Fuller, Chair of the Board of Trustees
Hello and thank you for your interest in becoming a trustee of The Road Safety Trust.
The Board of Trustees plays a vital role in guiding the Trust towards a sustainable future. Through its work and commitment, it provides strategic oversight, ensures sound and ethical governance and responsible financial management, and makes sure the Trust has the resources it needs to achieve its objectives.
With this campaign, we are seeking individuals with expertise in financial management, governance and risk to join our existing Board of Trustees who already provide a wealth of experience, knowledge and commitment.
Since being appointed to Chair of the Board in 2020, I’ve found that the opportunity to make a real difference to so many people’s lives is a great motivator. Your time and input are truly valued, and I can confidently say that you will find being a trustee both stimulating and rewarding. I look forward to receiving your application.
Introduction to The Road Safety Trust - Ruth Purdie OBE, Chief Executive
In addition to being appointed CEO of The Road Safety Trust in 2023, I am also the CEO of UKROEd, the not-for-profit trading subsidiary company wholly owned by The Road Safety Trust.
UKROEd is responsible for the operation of the National Driver Offender Retraining Scheme (NDORS), with all surplus funds from the scheme directed to The Trust.
Being in the privileged position of simultaneously overseeing both companies has afforded me the ability to see first-hand how the courses delivered by UKROEd – which are underpinned by the latest behavioural research and proven to positively influence road users’ behaviour – also facilitate the delivery of worthwhile projects via The Trust to make our roads safer.
Our Board of Trustees provide invaluable support to me and our dedicated staff, helping to steer the organisation as we continue making a meaningful difference to road safety. This is what motivates me each day and I welcome applications from those people with the right skills to support us on our journey.
The role: Trustee and Audit and Risk Committee member
