Project summary
The return of a loved one’s belongings following their death is considered a ‘pain point’ for families, which can frequently trigger the magnitude of their sudden loss - this project aims to provide all police forces in the UK with a range of boxes and bags to return property belonging to deceased persons following fatal road traffic collisions, to loved ones.
The act of returning belongings by a police officer (usually a family liaison officer) is an opportunity to facilitate a connection between both parties, considered important to building a trusting relationship throughout the investigation and these new resources offer a more trauma informed, empathetic alternative to police branded plastic bags, which are felt to be unsympathetic, impersonal and do not acknowledge the impact of a family’s loss.
