Paul Steinberg appointed Deputy Chief Executive
The Road Safety Trust has appointed Paul Steinberg as its new Deputy Chief Executive.
Paul will take on the role alongside his existing responsibilities as Director of Communications and Engagement, a position he has held since July 2024. He will begin the expanded remit on 1 December.
Since joining the Trust, Paul has led a major strengthening of its communications and engagement functions, introduced a refreshed approach to stakeholder insight, and helped secure a more visible external presence for the organisation. His leadership has been central to raising the Trust’s profile, deepening relationships across the sector and contributing to the development of the Trust’s strategic direction.
Tony Fuller, Chair of the Board of Trustees, said: “We are delighted to appoint Paul as Deputy CEO following a rigorous and competitive process. Paul’s experience, insight and commitment to the Trust’s purpose will be invaluable as we continue to build our impact and strengthen the organisation’s work. The Board looks forward to working closely with him in this new capacity.”
Ruth Purdie OBE, Chief Executive, added: “Paul has made a significant contribution to the Trust since he joined us last summer. He brings strategic focus, a clear understanding of how to strengthen the organisation’s profile, and a strong ability to articulate our mission with clarity and confidence. His appointment as Deputy Chief Executive reflects the leadership he has already shown and the important role he will play in shaping our future.”
Paul’s background includes senior roles in the NHS and local government, spanning strategy, commissioning and communications, building on an early career as a BBC News journalist. He has represented organisations at national level as a spokesperson and public speaker, and has played a key role in shaping the Trust’s external relations over the past fifteen months.
Speaking about his appointment, Paul said: “I am very pleased to be taking on the role of Deputy Chief Executive. The Trust has an important mission and I am proud to support colleagues as we work to improve road safety across the UK through our grants programme and wider impact.”
